Communication

West Kimberley Prison

Winning an initial 2-year contract with the Department of Corrective Services, the Creative Nature team is tasked with developing and implementing a proactive stakeholder engagement and communications strategy to support the new $98 million West Kimberley Prison Development.

On 24 April 2007 the Minister for Corrective Services Margaret Quirk announced State Government funding for a new multi-million dollar prison to be built between the Gibb River Road and Derby Highway, near Derby.

The announcement followed ongoing research and consultation by the Department of Corrective Services and the Kimberley Aboriginal Reference Group into ways of improving custodial services for prisoners and their families across the Kimberley, particularly for Aboriginal people.

With the ability to tap into the combined skills and knowledge of a professional team of communications and design professionals, CNC has to date:

  • designed and implemented a proactive stakeholder engagement and media management campaign based on defined project milestones,
  • established the design production and distribution of a bi-monthly newsletter, and
  • produced key marketing materials to support local community meetings, project team and ministerial visits.
The Prison will be the first facility of its kind in Australia specifically designed, managed and staffed to support Aboriginal prisoners and help them break the cycle of recidivism.
